The signs and symptoms of decay and putrefaction like decomposition of food in stomach, putrid diseases and ulcerations are the leading indications of its medicinal use. Also, conditions arising from the imperfect oxygenation of blood are treated with Carbo vegetabilis. It is suited to conditions where there is a lack of reaction. It also treats acrid, corrosive discharge from rectum and piles where there is pain after stools.

The typical Carbo patient is sluggish, fat and lazy and has a tendency to chronicity in his complaints. Blood seems to stagnate in the capillaries, causing blueness, coldness, and ecchymosis.

Also effective in the treatment of varicose ulcers, carbuncles, ecchymosis and senile gangrene. Pyorrhoea and aphthae on tongue can also be managed very well with this remedy. One of the most important indication for its use is in the persons who have never fully recovered from the effects of some previous illness.
