Acts on muscle of heart & is a heart tonic. Patient is weak and exhausted, sometimes weakness comes on suddenly. It is indicated in cardio-haemorrhagic or lithemic cases, in hypertension, arteriosclerosis, dyspnoea and dropsy. It acts as a sedative in cross, irritable patients with cardiac symptoms. In cases of arteriosclerosis, it is known to have a solvent power upon crustaceous & calcareous deposits in arteries.

When the heart is weakened from acute infectious diseases, Crataegus will sustain it without interfering with the main course of treatment. In the convalescence after acute diseases when the heart has become weak, Crataegus is often indicated. It gives good results in Diabetes, especially in children, fatty degeneration of the heart and aortic diseases. There is extreme dyspnoea on least exertion without a marked increase in pulse. Pain in region of heart and under the left clavicle. Heart is dilated with a weak first heart sound, heart muscles flabby ad worn out and pulse is accelerated, irregular, feeble and intermittent.
